How To Keep Your Teeth White While Sipping Warm Beverages This Winter

Coffee, tea and hot chocolate stain teeth. Here are some suggestions for how to keep your teeth white while still enjoying delicious, hot beverages this winter.

Use a Straw

Sipping through a straw reduces the amount of liquid with which your teeth come in contact. Drink through the little stir stick from the coffee shop instead of a straw. Do you feel silly drinking hot beverages this way? Reserve it for when you’re alone or enjoying iced coffee.

Drink Water between Beverages That Stain

Enjoy potentially staining beverages in moderation, and drink water between each. Water is good for your overall health and will also help wash away dark liquids from the teeth. Try alternating a sip of coffee, tea or hot chocolate with a sip of water. As a bonus, your flavored beverage will last longer.

Brush Your Teeth After

The longer the liquid sits on your teeth, the more intense the staining will be. Carry a toothbrush and toothpaste with you so that you can freshen up after your coffee break. Colgate® Wisps are very convenient, disposable toothbrushes with the toothpaste built-in the bristles.

And Floss!

Plaque attracts stains. Reducing plaque in general will reduce staining. If you don’t floss, you might end up with stains around the surfaces of your teeth even if you brush regularly.

Use Whitening Products

There are many whitening toothpastes and mouthwashes on the market. Switch to these specialized formulas if you frequently drink dark beverages. There’s even sugar-free gum on the market designed to help prevent and treat stains. Chewing sugar-free gum produces saliva, which will help keep your mouth fresh and clean.

Use Tooth Bleaching Products

Another way to keep your teeth white is by using over-the-counter or professional tooth bleaching products. These products come in a wide range of strengths and prices. Whiten your teeth at home on your own, or relax in a comfy dental chair and let the dental professionals handle it for you.

Follow these tips for a winter filled with warm, comforting sips while you maintain a pearly white smile. These tips also work for cold beverages that leave stains, such as cola, iced coffee and tea, wine and grape juice. Learning how to keep your teeth white takes just a little thought before that first sip.
